Bartlett- Harvest in late August, fruit is medium to large, and is a thin skinned familiar pear. Sweet, tender flesh is fine for eating and canning. Trees bare when young and are very productive. Partially self-fertile, but will produces more fruit when cross pollinated. Fruit stores well for 3 months. Susceptible to fire blight. Zone 5-8
Bosc – Long, narrow fruit with russet color. Flesh is firm, crisp with heavy perfume. Good fresh, canned and especially fine for cooking. Stores well for 3-4 months. Susceptible to fire blight.
Chojuro – medium to large, russet skinned fruit with strong flavor. Good for eating fresh and putting in salads. Fruit is very firm and stores well for 5 months. Resistant to fire blight.
Nijisseiki (Twentieth Century) - Asian pear with sweet taste, slightly tart, great for eating fresh. Green skinned and round, small to medium sized fruit. Heavy producing tree may need to be thinned in early summer to promote good sized fruit. Fruit Store for 4-5 months. Susceptible to fire blight.
Seckel – small, yellow-brown fruit has the finest aroma and flavor of any home garden pear. Eat fresh or whole for spiced preserves. Stores well for 1-3 months. Resistant to fire blight tree.
Shenseiki – medium, yellow skinned with mild, good flavor. Earliest maturing Asian pear should be picked when skin turns yellow. Good for eating fresh and putting in salads. Fruit stores for 1-3 months Susceptible to fire blight.
